About Paul
Meet Paul Akinjo
Paul has called Lathrop his home for nearly 25 years, witnessing its transformation from a small bedroom community to the vibrant city of almost 40,000 residents it is today.
Paul, who immigrated to the United States from Nigeria over 30 years ago, has shown his commitment to his adopted country by serving in the United States Army Reserve, where he received an honorable discharge.
In 2012, Paul was unanimously appointed to the Lathrop City Council, where he is currently serving his fourth term. As a Councilman, Paul represents the community as a member of the California League of Cities, serving as Past President of the League of Cities Central Valley Division and as a member of the organization’s Small Cities, Transportation, and Infrastructure Committees.
In addition, Paul is a Director of the Tri-Valley San Joaquin Valley Regional Authority and a member of the San Joaquin County Area Flood Control Agency Board, the San Joaquin Air Resources Board, and the San Joaquin Waste Management Board.
He staunchly advocates for social justice, equality, inclusivity, and progress.
He actively engages with community members, listens to their concerns, and tirelessly represents those who have not had a voice in government. His service has been marked by innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety, fostering economic growth, and promoting equality for all Lathrop residents.
Paul holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Arts and Technology from San Franciso State and an Associate Degree in Electronics Technology from Laney College in Oakland. He also holds various levels of Computer and Networking Certification from Cisco and Microsoft corporations. Community involvement and public service have always been a part of Paul’s life. He is an active member of the United Bacarreneos of America and numerous local community-based organizations.
As a Lathrop Councilmember, Paul continues to inspire positive change, leaving an indelible mark on the fabric of the community. Paul is a husband and father with three children. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and attending community events in his spare time.
